The Rothchilds, written in 1961, covers the history of a powerful family who basically lifted western civilization up from the dregs of 18th century colonial monarchs to form a global marketing and monetary system. The fact that this family overcomes the many restrictions put on their Jewish heritage makes their story that much more incredible.
Frederic Morton's writing style gives the feel of fiction, but hindsight and history prove true the many facts listed in this book. It's a book that begins with one man's vision of family and progress. And though the methods by which this man and his five sons utilize to attain financial success appear at times shockingly cold and greedy, they didn't invent the rules of the game, they just mastered a unified approach to it.
The nature of the business they're in does not look kindly toward one who harbors a sensitive conscious. Power, not weakness, is what the Rothchilds have practiced attaining and maintaining through the years. This book illustrates the people, places and practices the Rothchilds used to acquire their power and keep it. A Very Engrossing Read!
