Raiders Rolling With Minshew

Well Raider Nation, Love Him or Hate Him, you can't ignore the fact Gardner Minshew will start at Quarterback week 1 of the regular season for the Raiders. And you gotta admit, the hair and stache do give him an ol'skool, Autumn Wind, Raiders Pirate look.

His Face is Weather Beaten.
He Wears a Hooded Sash,
With a Silver Hat About his Head,
And a Bristling Black Mustache. Cont'd

Head Coach Antonio Pierce announced the decision within 24hrs after losing at home Saturday against the Dallas Cowboys. I believe Aidan O'Connell lost the quarterback competition after throwing a pick-six  on the first play of the fourth quarter. Looks like the tight end on the play might share some blame, but Aidan shouldn't have thrown that ball.

Meanwhile, Minshew had a lower passer rating than O'Connell and didn't get the ball into the endzone. However, he did have a 48-yard bomb to Tre Tucker, an offensive highlight on the day for the Raiders. Coach Pierce pointed out Minshew's veteran experience and "infectious" personality, energy, and leadership.

The Raiders close out the pre-season with a Friday night game at home against the San Francisco 49ers. Starters will not play. Teams are scheduled to trim preseason rosters from 90 to the regular season 53-man roster on August 27, 2024.

Note: Despite having 53 players on the roster, only 48 are allowed to be active on game day.
