Jerry Rice Dancing Arguments

My good friend Deanguelo, a former Professional Dancer that could jump, kick and twirl with the best in his day, has commented on why Jerry Rice should be "Dancing with The Stars."

Deanguelo's Comments:
Jerry Rice is proving the "you can't teach an old dog new tricks" myth invalid. He's also having "fun" without the fear of further damaging his body. He will be forever lauded for his accomplishments, which cannot be disputed or overshadowed, unless he commits (or is accused of) murder.

Believe he can do anything. Believe You can do anything. Believe we can all do anything we wish to, as long as we do it for good, and in earnest. As for the power of 13 ... I was 13 on the day Jerry was born, on the 13th of October, which is my Father's birthday also, and my Mother was born in the 13th year.

Believe in Jerry Rice, because he believes in himself. And he will be remembered with all of the greatness that you admire . . .

My rebuttal comments to my former friend Deanguelo:

Well,

And just when did you become the expert on Jerry Rice? I know you're a former Professional Dancer and all, and you see Jerry's attempts at dancing as an extension of his greatness, but Mr. Deanguelo.........Stick to what you know....Dancing.

Jerry Rice is a football player, the greatest wide receiver that ever caught a football. He doesn't have to prove anything to anybody, least of all some phony judges on a primetime tv show. If Jerry wants to dance he should take his faithful and beautiful wife Jackie and rumba his way around the world. But to go on a dance competition tv show and make himself look like anything but the greatest receiver of all time is an embarassment to himself and football fans across the globe. It's like putting a saddle on a pig, the only reason anyone wants to see a pig with a saddle on its back is to laugh and joke about the oddity of it all. What'll we have next, Hilary Clinton in the Miss America Competition? I'm sure with a facelift, tummy tuck, breast job and calf-reduction she'll knock'em dead.

I have nothing against dancing competitions. And I have nothing against any celebrity, whether he be an athlete, musician, politician or actor, taking up dancing once they've retired from their profession. But when you've been the best in your profession and people are inspired by your accomplishments, don't belittle those accomplishments by saying that a few dance lessons and competitions were harder than the 18 years of participating in a profession that requires more of the human body than almost any other activity. And if you're going to dance because you wanna just have some fun then say just that. But don't go saying that this is your new proving grounds for greatness and compare it to football. I wonder how much they're paying Jerry to say and do the things he's doing on the show? He sold out if you ask me. He doesn't need the money, he doesn't need the fame and he doesn't need the exercise yet, so what is it? Why the dancing?

Maybe just to piss off loyal sports fans like myself off. I'll never except Jerry Rice on television selling himself out for a chance at dancing greatness. Never. I say we take a few dancers and put them on the football field as a receiver with some professional NFL players during a real game and judge how well they survive the punishment of being hit while trying to catch a football. We'll call the show DANCERS SEEING STARS.

Today I celebrate a true Friend

Friends are persons who we tend to take for granted. We know that we can depend on them through tough times. They are the persons in our lives who give us feedback on how we’re living. When a friend tells you that you’re wrong you may first debate the issue but finally you admit your error and thank that friend for their brutal honesty. A friend becomes family and in some ways knows you better than actual family. Whether it is issues with your job, family, relationship or health, a friend is there in your corner to cheer you on or up.

A friend cares not only about your inner person but your outer appearance as well. A friend will not let you walk around with a boogie hanging from your nose nor will they say nice things to appease your ego. If you walk out of the house wearing patterns that are just not meant to be worn together a friend will let you know it and might even suggest a better match. Usually a friend can tell you’re ill before you’ve even acknowledged it fully. That friend is so tuned into and concerned with your well being that any ills you experience will be immediately apparent to that friend. How do we honor friendships such as these? How often do we let these friends know their worth to us? We probably don’t give enough effort in giving back to a friend what that friend gives us and we definitely don’t honor them often enough.

So today I found myself reading a kind note of inspiration I received from my friend and I decided to shed a few words of acknowledgment and appreciation toward him. My Friend, who encourages my talents, inspires my ideas, listens to my concerns, comforts me during the lows and celebrates with me during the highs, overlooks my weaknesses, approves of my beliefs, shares in my joys and pains, laughs with me and also at times, at me, intoxicates my life with joyful blessings, uplifts my spirit with wisdom, instills in me courage, and is forever a part of my human family of loved ones.

Ladies and Gentlemen of Earth I give you my friend:

Dr. Donald “DeAnguelo” Robinson

His PhD in Humanity is one well deserving of 21st Century Homo sapiens who are not disillusioned by the material achievements of society. He is a man who lives the golden rule and teaches it by example, wishing prosperity to all humankind. It is written that if a person has but one friend in his life let that friend be full of worldly love and you’ll want for no additional friendships than this one. A friendly man proves to another man that to be a man one must respect all men and love all humanity.

We are all teachers to one another and serve each other as a mirror of ones own potential. It is an unwise man who let’s jealousy fog the mirror put in front of him and therefore misses out on the lesson. We should share our many talents with one another and not hoard the riches that God has given us. We all have talents and gifts, sometimes it may take a friend to discover or uncover it for us.

Thanks go out to my friend, Dr. Donald “DeAnguelo” Robinson, for being the man he is and helping me become the human I’m capable of becoming. It takes having a friend such as one like Donald for us to know what it takes to be a friend to others.

The Great Transformation - Death

In the last ten months I've lost friends and relatives who at some point in my life we had a special connection. Two of those who passed-on trod 90-plus years upon this earth, and I feel truly blessed to have shared earth-time with them.

In soothing my grief, I have revisited books on my shelf that help bring peace and understanding to the mystery of death. The biblical verse "Weeping may last for a night, but joy cometh in the morning," can definitely be attributed to my condition after each departing soul took leave. For I have spent more time celebrating memories of times spent with them, than suffering the pain that loss always seems to bring.

What I have tried to do over the years is change my perspective on friends and relatives who have passed-on. I see them in a new light, and I'd like to believe they see me in a new light too. That special connection we had in life somehow becomes stronger and more understanding, even with death as a curtain in between.

I feel I have access to them all the time, and they access to me should there be a need. So, for me, life on earth becomes more a celebration and less a struggle to survive, because I have so much more to celebrate. And so little to fear.

I feel I have soulful beings, some might call angels, who are always present to make sure I continue to tread a righteous path and connect to all life, and someday death. They have become for me God's ambassadors, beacons lighting the way along the road I must continue to travel.

I love life! And I hope to bring out the love in others in my death someday. It all becomes a matter of perspective.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
