Will those same Republicans seek favor and alliance with foreign invaders? Will they rally on or incite the invaders in their attack on our Capitol? Will they cut off their noses to spite their faces?
On the evening of the runoff, after Warnock narrowly defeated Walker, MSNBC correspondent Joy Reid details how Republicans putting forward such a 'low quality' candidate as Walker was an 'insult to black people' and voters. Joy points out Sen. Lindsey Graham's reasoning for supporting Walker as proof America is not racist.
I would say it proves just the opposite. Putting a 'low quality' black person in a position of political power rather than a high quality one is not a credit to the black race, but an embarrassment and injustice to blacks. It says more about those putting forward and supporting Walker's candidacy than it does about the man himself.
Just as putting a 'low quality' American businessman in political power in 2016, it became an embarrassment for American businessmen and politics, and continues to raise questions and concerns about those supporting him.
Here is a transcript of Joy Reid's comments from the show:
JOY REID, MSNBC: The thing that has been kind of fascinating to me is the person who has spoken the most about Herschel Walker's candidacy is not Herschel Walker, it is Lindsey Graham. The case that Lindsey Graham has been making for those voters, where they're saying it's a team vote, not an individual vote."
He has literally gone out to say, and he is not talking to black voters, let's just be clear. Lindsey Graham has no currency among black folks. He's talking to white voters. He is saying, vote for Herschel Walker, not because Herschel Walker would be good for Georgia, he's never said that. Not vote for Herschel Walker because of abortion, even though this is a state where abortion is not an issue. I've said, the X-factor in this election, the reason I never believed the red wave thing is because of abortion.
Lindsey Graham didn't say vote for him because of MAGA. He said to vote for him so we can prove we're not racist. That was his main selling point. He's saying don't vote for him because he would do great things in the Senate, abortion rights, these policies, he said to vote for him because it would make young black folks around the country want to be Republicans, it would inspire people of color to be Republicans and it would prove we are not racist. That is a hell of an argument to make.
I have to say this because while I was down there, the word I heard the most, particularly from black voters in Georgia, was representation. There are only two people running, they're both black. The one that proves if you want to say proves that America is not racist is, clearly, Warnock. Warnock is an intelligent, articulate man, who can speak fluently, who understands the job of being a Senator, who is doing the job of being a Senator, gotten a bunch of bills passed that helped Georgia. He's talking about how we need more hospitals, hospitals are closing, it's a big issue in the state, and he's on that issue.
He's saying, we need to talk about Big Agriculture. Herschel Walker can barely put a sentence together. Herschel Walker, literally, without any irony, used the word, and I'm sorry to say this word on television, coon, as a compliment about himself.
Lindsey Graham, this is a great lesson for Republicans. The answer to solving your demographic problem is not to put forward a candidate like this, of such a low quality. It's an insult to black people, and they felt insulted.
