It's official. The Florida Panthers are National Hockey League Champions!
The Panthers flirted with disaster by letting the Edmonton Oilers get back into a 3-0 series and force a Finals game 7. After losing three straight games, the Panthers came out in game 7 and scored the first goal, something the Oilers had done in those three straight losses.
It took The Oilers a little over two minutes to tie the game at 1-1 in the first period. The Panthers would break the tie with a late 2nd period score, which turned out to be their game winning goal. And that is how the Florida Panthers of the Sunshine State secured their first NHL Stanley Cup, by winning a game 7 at home in Sunrise, Florida.
A team that was Finals runner-up last season now hoists the Championship Crown!
Congratulations Panthers!!!
Final Score (Panthers win series 4-3)
Oilers 1
Panthers 2
