SF Bay Area Sports Wednesday

San Francisco Giants’ LaMonte Wade Jr. (31) hits a home run against St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Steven Matz (32) in the fourth inning at Oracle Park in San Francisco, Calif., on Wednesday, April 26, 2023. (Shae Hammond/Bay Area News Group)

The San Francisco Giants won their fifth game in a row with improved hitting (13) and solid pitching. Sure, Cardinals seven-time Allstar, Paul Goldschmidt, clobbered two home runs. But in the end Giants pitcher Camilo Doval got Goldschmidt (4 hits/2 rbi) to hit into a double-play with bases loaded, to end the game.

Giants 7 Angels 3.

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors proved their championship mettle by going into the cow-belling chaos of Sacramento's Golden 1 Center and snatching away homecourt advantage with a 123-116 Game 5 victory. The Warriors can close out the series with a Game 6 win, Friday. Championship Basketball is still alive and well in the Bay.

Sadly, Oakland A's baseball is tanking early. With only five wins so far this season, fewest in the league, yesterday's 11-3 loss to the Angels makes their Las Vegas move that much more inevitable. A's fans simply want to 'wish the abysmal team performances' into the dry, dead, desert, letting fly-carrying vultures pick at the bones of what once was a beefy baseball club.

Warriors Kings NorCal Classic

Leave it to Northern California basketball to deliver a first round NBA ‘must watch to the end’ show. Sunday’s Golden State Warriors versus Sacramento Kings Game 4 duel was a back-and-forth fight between veterans and new bloods with neither willing to concede defeat.

The Warriors somehow held off the upstart Kings who were looking to make it a 3-1 series in their favor, putting the defending Champions backs on the ropes. It took every bit of veteran skill and wisdom to overcome a young & hungry Sacramento team in their first playoff series in sixteen years.

An uncharacteristic mistake by Warriors Steph Curry gave the new bloods an unexpected gift opportunity in the game's closing minutes in which young Kings phenom De’Aaron Fox took full advantage of by draining a three-pointer, cutting their deficit to one point.

I can say as a grizzly veteran fan of close Warriors games that this one, with a one-point lead and ten seconds left, had me hanging on for dear life. It felt like being on one of those skyscraping amusement park rides anticipating the plunge just before the bottom drops out. Then it all happened so fast: Fox, Curry, Green, Fox, Barnes, “The Shot,” Clank. . . Warriors Win 126-125!!!

It Was the Worst of times, it Was the Best of times

Dickens had it backwards.

Gervonta "Tank" Davis Delivers

As he predicted, Tank Davis delivered a seventh-round knockout punch. Unlike the Babe Ruth homerun call, he didn't predict where the blow would land, only that it would end Ryan Garcia's night. Tank had knocked down Garcia in round two, but Garcia popped right back up afterward and continued seemingly unfazed. Not so in round 7.

In round 7 Garcia tried to weather the quick, barely noticeable to viewers, body shot. But as we boxing fans know about body blows, you don't just shake off a perfectly placed body blow. Garcia took a knee and eventually succumbed to it.

I had Tank winning rounds two through five. Every round looked close, but after Garcia was knocked down you could see hesitancy in his willingness to throw certain punches as freely, like his vaunted left hook. Whereas Tank didn't get too high nor too low. He just stayed with his game plan and demonstrated sharp ring intelligence.

This fight seemed more a strategic mind game than a demonstration of power and athleticism. Tank won the game hands down. He looked like a hunter in the ring. Boxing has an Undisputed Champion in Gervonta "Tank" Davis. And the champ has earned every bit of his Undisputed title.

Congratulations Champ!

Warriors Right Ship in Gm 3 Win

Moody’s Mood

Moses Moody was just one of many Golden State Warriors to step up and produce in a pivotal first round NBA playoff game last night. Down two games to none in a seven game series againt the Sacramento Kings, and without Draymond Green nor Gary Payton II, the Warriors made adjustments and came away with a 114-97 must have home victory.

Kevon Looney controlled the boards with 20 rebounds, Donte DiVincenzo aka “White Chocolate 2.0” was amazing running the floor and finding the open man. He had 8 assists. And my boy Moses Moody added thirteen points to go along with some much needed Warriors defense, causing fits for the Kings. Moody, DiVincenzo, Kuminga, J.Green, and Lamb stepped up and played the Warriors style of basketball. They found that rhythm!

Ball movement with limited turnovers, unrushed and in control fast paced offense, smothering defense with limited fouling. And it seemed coach Steve Kerr was more involved, moving pieces around like a chess master again.

On a night where Warriors 3-pt shooting was below average, their defense kept the Kings shooting way below theirs. I can’t be the only Warriors fan wondering if Draymond Green should come off the bench when he returns from his one game suspension come Sunday’s game 4.

The energy, athleticism, and scoring threats the Warriors threw at the Kings simply overwhelmed whatever gameplan the Kings thought they could roll with. The Kings were a series low in 3-pt shots made percentage (23%), and series high in turnovers (15).

I grew up in New York where the late, great DJ, “chief rocker Frankie Crocker” of WBLS shutdown his music radio show each day with an old classic jazzy tune called Moody’s Mood. It wasn’t the best jazz song, and it was a bit outdated, but it had a style and grace that matched the silky smooth voice of Frankie Crocker. I think he would approve of using the song as a tribute to last night’s Warriors feat of shutting down a Kings team who gave them headaches in the prior two games of the series.

Style & Grace!

$787.5 Million Fox News Disinformation Settlement

misinformation - spreading false information without intent to cause harm

DISINFORMATION - Spreading false information with Intent to cause harm

Fox Corporation was held accountable today for lies fed to the American public. Fox knowingly went along with the lie of a stolen 2020 Presidential election fostered by Donald J. Trump and his sycophants. It will cost the Rupert Murdoch controlled company Seven-Hundred-Eighty-Seven Million Dollars plus, as well as exposure to future lawsuits.

Regular viewers of Fox News must now tussle with whether to trust a so-called news network guilty of knowingly lying to them for corporate gain. Scary to think that just like Fox News personalities knowingly repeated lies, those who regularly tune in knowingly consume the lies.

Murdoch started out in Tabloid Newspaper publications. Maybe this is just more proof of a leopard unable to change his spots. Let's hope for the sake of our country Fox viewers can change theirs.

Trump Over Moscow

If the 'White Ford Bronco" chase of 1994 was a media game-changer, there's the making of a blockbuster criminal chase taking place today that'll make OJ look like a fugitive slave on the run through 'dismal swamps' of the antebellum south.

Today America is watching as a former high-ranking government official is believed to have "fled" the country overnight to avoid indictment on multiple criminal charges in New York. Scheduled to turn himself in for criminal booking tomorrow, reports are in which put his surrender seriously in doubt. He is believed to be in route to either Moscow, China or Greenland.

It's suspected he fled with remaining Top-Secret Documents he kept hidden from federal investigator searches of his Florida residence. The highly sensitive documents may have been hidden in his private plane.

Also missing are millions of dollars of recent campaign contribution funds meant for his reelection campaign. Those political supporters who sent money to the campaign can join a class-action lawsuit already in place to recoup prior campaign supporter fraud. Unfortunately, the gift t-shirts promised for your support were shipped to .  .  .  Moscow!

Breaking News Update!

Late last night astronomers on the lookout for a rare meteorite shower event over the U.S. Northeast, saw an airplane in distress over New York's Laguardia Airport. It seems someone had entered the airplane's cockpit and was grappling with the pilot while trying to lunge at the flight instruments. As the craft's erratic descent came closing in toward the runway, they saw in the cabin a flash of orange, a baseball bat and a gold Burger King crown all go flying topsy-turvy before all aircraft lights went dark.

After minutes of what the astronomers' thought was them witnessing a downed aircraft, they observed the silhouette of a private jet ascending over the Atlantic. Visible on the tail was the distinctive red "T," and the craft's retracting landing gear underneath. The Laguardia landing had been viciously aborted.
