#8: Definition of a Football Punter

A Raiders soldier passes!

Ray Guy, Hall of Fame punter who served the Oakland/L.A. Raiders from 1973-1986 has laid down his shield. The art of punting a football cannot be taught nor appreciated without footage of #8 in action while wearing silver and black. I believe he approached the art of punting as committedly as professional ballet dancers tackle challenging ballet moves

Watching Guy sweep his right leg skyward when punting, where his knee just about kissed his chin, was jaw dropping and legendary. The power in his leg was that of Secretariat, while his graceful style matched performances of the great dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov.

Guy's Superdome gondola strike was no accident

Ray Guy will always be part of what makes Raiders Football and Raider Nation so great. The memories of his greatness and those teams' "Will to Win" continue to burn bright.

Rest Well Soldier!
